SUMMARY:DEEP DIVE: INTO THE ROOTS OF FREEDOM
DESCRIPTION:DETAILS\n\n\n\nWHAT:\n\n\n\n10-day Retreat \n\n\n\nPRICE:\n\n\n\n\nRates vary. Visit Samahita Retreat website for more information.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhether you are brand new to yoga or have been interested in it for years\, you’re likely to have experienced inexplicable moments of joy during your practice. As if you entered into a moment of spacious timelessness\, and equanimity. It’s like you’ve come home to a place that is extraordinarily familiar\, yet you aren’t quite sure where you are. That’s because states of freedom spontaneously arise through yoga. Freedom from habitual patterns of being and reacting to circumstances. Yoga helps us experience the joining together of complimentary patterns of feeling\, thought\, breath and sensation in which insight into the open nature of being spontaneously arises. Āsana opens doorways of perception\, prāṇāyāma establishes pathways for intelligence\, while meditation\, chanting and philosophical study facilitate patience\, clarity and discernment. Yoga begins and evolves within these practices in the moment at hand. \n\n\n\nIn this retreat we will work with all these forms of practice\, dropping deeply into the awakened embodied state of freedom which is at yoga’s core. In the mornings we will practice prāṇāyāma and āsana (some guided\, and some Mysore style all sculpted to meet individual needs) and. Afternoons will include meditation\, chanting and philosophy. Using the Śiva Saṃhitā for context and as a springboard for study we will experience how communicating and working together provides a feeling of ballast and the opportunity for insight into the value and truth of interconnectedness. Together we will explore how the ancient practices of yoga can be brought into the world with meaning\, to foster a sense compassion and of agency in our daily lives. This retreat is appropriate for practitioners of all levels and all traditions of practice.

SUMMARY:Monthly Studio Talk
DESCRIPTION:DETAILS\n\n\n\nTOPIC:\n\n\n\nHow to Succeed in Yoga Without Really Trying \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBack in the early 90’s when our original Yoga Workshop studio was a few years old\, we started offering Studio Talks on Sunday evenings after the packed Mysore class. We never knew for sure whether there would be a talk\, though usually as we rolled up our mats and wiped sweat from the floor you’d hear Richard’s voice quietly saying\, “In fifteen minutes\, there will be a talk…if anyone is here.” They grew from 10-20 in attendance to close to 100 at times as word spread that the talks were interesting\, often funny and always free. And best of all\, you didn’t have to practice yoga to join in. \n\n\n\nWhen the pandemic hit in 2020 we started offering Studio Talks live online and these too have grown into a monthly online gathering of sangha members from around the world. We cover foundational yoga teachings and paradoxes in context of modern life and for those who join live\, we always stick around for questions.

Yet taking time to cultivate finishing postures\, pranayama forms as well as meditation practice can enliven and bring a whole new depth to our daily asana practice. In this silent retreat we will focus on the balancing combination of asana\, meditation and breathing practices. Each day we will sit\, practice Mysore style\, chant\, explore postures in depth in guided sessions and work with the philosophical underpinnings of the elements of compassion and an understanding of the nature of the mind and the body. \n\n\n\nMost days will be spent in meditative silence to allow the practices to be assimilated and take root. What better place to experiment with silence than in the supportive environment of the ocean and nature that is part of the Samahita experience. The retreat is appropriate for beginning and seasoned meditation practitioners alike. To understand more about this retreat please read this testimonial. \n\n\n\nThis retreat is a remarkable opportunity to slow down\, reflect and go deeply into practice. Immersed in the richness of nature and the tropics\, when we introduce silence of speech\, something magical happens. Spaces\, insights\, and a sense of groundedness emerge freely. These shifts in experience and perspective are always there in the background\, but when we introduce the freedom of silence\, they shine forth. \n\n\n\nDay two we ease into silence and on the last full day we ease back out. Students are encouraged to keep silent\, stay off screens\, and take advantage of the rare opportunity for reflection and renewal in the vastness of nature. Mary and Richard will be available if difficulties\, doubts or questions within the practice arise.

DESCRIPTION:DETAILS\n\n\n\nWHAT:\n\n\n\n2 Day Workshop \n\n\n\nPRICE:\n\n\n\n\n2 days/12 hours: CHF 390\n\n\n\nEarly bird price: CHF 350 (Until May 28th)\n\n\n\n\nSchedule\n\n\n\n\nMORNING | 9am -12pm\n\n\n\nAFTERNOON | 2-5pm\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn āsana\, prāṇāyāma\, and meditation things are always in flux\, left to right\, up to down\, ease to difficulty on layers inside and out. Using the breath as a stabilizing foundation of physical balance\, we will trace patterns of movement and form through conscious and continuous connection to internal lines of alignment so that the legs and feet connect to the earth\, uddiyana and mula bandhas manifest and the coccyx and kidneys become the expressive forms of a grounded experience of expansiveness and joy in moments of transition. In morning classes\, will begin with a simple prāṇāyāma practice followed by and exploration of the Ashtanga Vinyasa system of asana\, following an empty thread of awareness through and between postures\, and focusing on the intentional sequence of form\, thought\, movement\, and breath that frees the mind\, awakens the central channel\, and allows a meditative flowing practice to naturally arise. The afternoons will include chanting detailed exploration of finishing and restorative practices that compliment and can be integrated into an active ashtanga practice.

SUMMARY:Complimentary Opposites: Divine Female and Male Energy of Every Moment
DESCRIPTION:DETAILS\n\n\n\nWHAT:\n\n\n\n3 Day Workshop \n\n\n\nPRICE:\n\n\n\n\n3 days/18 hours: CHF 590\n\n\n\nEarly bird price: CHF 520 (Until May 28th)\n\n\n\n\nSchedule\n\n\n\n\nMORNING | 8:30am -11:30am\n\n\n\nAFTERNOON | 2-5pm\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn yoga we look inward to iconic patterns of awareness and expression within the breath\, body\, heart\, and mind to help find balance. For each of us divine expressions of female and male energy complement one another within our thoughts\, movements\, actions\, and interactions in the world and if we lose touch with the vitality this balance provides\, we and those around us suffer. This pattern of internal awareness and balance is at the core of the ashtanga vinyasa system of practice reflected not only in the modern-day practice of this form\, but in texts\, such as the Yoga Tārāvalī\, that serve as its roots. In this workshop we will reignite the powerful expression of seemingly opposite patterns working together to awaken the fully embodied experience of the moment at hand. Together we will explore āsana\, prāṇāyāma\, meditation\, and chanting witha focus on foundational wave patterns of movement\, form and thought that make the ashtanga vinyasa inspired practice supportive\, safe\, strong\, and supple. We will also study the Yoga Tārāvalī and experience firsthand how practicing andcontemplating in this way helps remove patterns of holding that can show up as tightness or weakness in your body\, difficulty communicating with or finding tolerance for others\, and tuning in deeply to your own core needs and emotions.Inspiration for this workshop grew out of real life for Richard and Mary. With over fifty years of experience each practicing\, studying\, and teaching yoga while navigating the complexities of life—running a business and raising a family together—they offer insight and wisdom into how to make yoga an integral part of a healthy\, happy life. The capacity to see and embody through yoga the interfacing of opposites has been their greatest teacher allowing them to be supportive of one another without losing themselves as individuals in the process. They invite you to join them and explore the freedom of uniting breath\, mind\, body\, and spirit to wake up to your full potential and embrace the capacity to be of service in the world.Open to students of all levels of practice.

DESCRIPTION:DETAILS\n\n\n\nTOPIC:\n\n\n\nThe 5 Koshas & Layers of the Mind \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBack in the early 90’s when our original Yoga Workshop studio was a few years old\, we started offering Studio Talks on Sunday evenings after the packed Mysore class.

We begin to feel free. Free from confusion and neurotic tendencies that keep us stuck. Free from obstacles that block our natural intelligence\, and that limit our capacity to awaken into a fully embodied state. In this workshop we will reignite the powerful expression of seemingly opposite patterns working together to awaken the fully embodied experience within the moment at hand. We will explore how the Ashtanga Vinyasa system is integral to this awakening\, following an empty thread of awareness through and between postures\, focusing on the intentional sequence of form\, thought\, movement\, and breath that frees the mind\, awakens the central channel\, and allows a meditative flowing practice to naturally arise. \n\n\n\n\nSaturday will be guided āsana\, prāṇāyāma\, and meditation practices with a focus on foundational wave patterns of movement\, form and thought that make the ashtanga vinyasa inspired practice supportive\, safe\, strong\, and supple. \n\n\n\nSunday’s morning class will be a Mysore style practice in which you can apply the subtleties of practice covered on Saturday to your personal practice with feedback and assistance along the way. Sunday afternoon will focus on prāṇāyāma followed by time for Q&A.Open to students of all levels
